Our Story

Lokakavya Digital Foundation was conceived in 2026 out of a shared commitment to women’s rights, digital access, and cultural conservation. Its founding team—practitioners working across civic technology, geospatial mapping, art, and storytelling—first collaborated on an interactive documentary project that explored women’s everyday lives through mobile and coding-enabled experiences in 2016. With combined expertise in coding (AI/XR), digital skilling, and heritage conservation, the founders established Lokakavya Foundation to advance digital literacy, enable safe and equitable participation, and preserve cultural knowledge through innovative, technology-driven storytelling.

Our Name

Lokakavya Digital Foundation

Lokakavya (लोककाव्य) means the people’s poetry: living narratives and creative expressions rooted in community, memory, and oral tradition. Symbolising a shared guardianship of cultural expression, Lokakavya is dedicated to nurturing living memories by preserving cultural and creative heritage through digital tools, community engagement, and collaborative storytelling. As a foundation, Lokakavya works to sustain and share cultural heritage, enabling stories, sites, and practices to be actively lived, co-created, and transmitted across generations.

Weaver of stories

Meet Baya, Our Story Weaver

Meet Baya, our cheerful little weaver who brings stories to life. Inspired by the Indian Baya Weaver bird, Baya builds with care, skill, and community spirit. Instead of straw, it weaves glowing threads of knowledge, memory, and data. Its colourful, fibre-optic threads reflect the blend of tradition and technology that guides Kathnik. Curious, observant, and always creating, Baya is our companion in digital heritage work, helping us protect culture one woven story at a time.
